the usa is region 1 for dvds, and europe is region 2 so what about computers? are they multi-region, or does it depend on where you live?

The Region encoding is only so the manufacturers can release DVD's at different times in different areas. All DVD players are capable of reading any region it's just that they are set to read a particular region before sale but they can generally be converted to region 0 (ie any region) by a remote key sequence. Computer DVD's are usually set to region 0 anyway. Google "DVD region hack" and you'll see what I mean.

You might find that your PC DVD Player will be region free for about the first 5 times you use it, and then it will ask you to select a region that will then become fixed. As with most standalone DVD players, i'm sure there is some sort of hack code out there that will allow you to make it permanently region free.
