I have some files from my sons GOPRO that are MP4 format but keep coming up format error Is there any program that can correct this

What PROGRAM are you trying to view them on?

AVS Media player - Window Media player - ITunes - to name a few plus try to convert it on AVS Video converter all say they cant read the file

Try installing VLC player:
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.en-GB.html

If that won't open them, then I'd suggest that the files are corrupt.
