I have had a high fever, coming on and off, every few hours since Saturday evening. Yesterday was dreadful. I am taking ibuprofen every 3-4 hours, but it isn't really having much effect.

I have had terrible headaches, and sore throats and a very nasty, continual cough, I get this once a year and I am sure it will stop later this week.

But what can I take or do, that I am already doing ? Its very difficult trying to sleep, as I am "burning up"

Paracetamol will bring down your temperature, Mikey.
Question Author
And Ibubroven wont ?....sorry... I didn't know that.
The medical name for it is Trumpofeva. Don't worry, it will pass in time. Just keep taking the Ibu.
Soluble paracetamol, gargle with it then swallow. It will ease the sore throat, and help alleviate the fever symptoms.
Would probably have been better to post in Body and soul, could attract more medical people.
Agree with Tilly and up your fluids too.

Sorry....I didn't know that.

Ed...can you move his to body and soul for me please ?
Get doctors' aog and 3 t's to give you something for it. I don't think it'll be brufen or paracetamol, though :-)
Tilly is right... you need paracetamol. Hope you feel better soon xx
I wouldn't worry about moving the thread Mikey - the jesters get in B&S too.

Thanks everybody.....Paracetamol it is then !
Paracetamol and Ibuprofen will both bring down the temperature.
If the temperature is due to inflammation i.e sprained ankle, influenza, then ibuprofen has greater anti-inflammatory properties than paracetamol.

Sounds like a virus infection.....go to bed, keep warm, stay indoors and take Ibuprofen 600mgs (3 * 200mgm tablets)every six hours.

It will settle.
Melv, you are naughty. I had to think for a while there.

Yes but serious posters tend not to go to Chatterbank.
Fair enough.

If it wasn't so difficult to get to see my GP, I would have gone this this morning
and waited until he gave me something.

I declined a flu jab this Autumn, as I usually do and I am now wondering if that was wise or not>

Sounds very unpleasant, can't remember the last time I had Cold or Flu type symptoms tbh.
Think it wasn't a wise thing to do, Mikey, but it's easy to be wise after the event. Curl up under the duvet and don't forget to switch the radio on at 7.00. I'm out tonight so will record it.
