This could be game-changer for Samsung. Their credibility is now at an all-time low. I glad I have never been tempted to go over to the Dark Side !

It would seem to result from the pursuit (by all manufacturers, including Apple) of thinner and thinner phones, which means you either (like Apple) compromise battery life, or you (like Samsung) try to increase battery efficiency to the point where stability is an issue. The daft thing is, I know loads of people who complain about short battery life, but...

Sad day for me as I have been a samsung devotee but I only have the basic Core, quite well established reliability. Feel a bit sorry for them over this spontaneous combustion issue but they clearly were a bit slap dash in the design department. No doubt some bean counter thought he could save on production costs. Usual thing in these corporations.

TTT....I think its their tardiness in coming clean about the problems that will effect the company in the future.

Even supposing that they can find the money to pay millions of people back, and cope with the resulting court cases, it may have holed Samsung beneath the water line.
Recalling 2.5 million Galaxy Note 7 after reports of same catching fire...They should have hailed it as a feature: "The only phone with a built in cigarette lighter".

The daft thing is, I know loads of people who complain about short battery life, but very few who wish their phone was a millimetre thinner. As witness all those add-on battery packs, and cases.

i heard an apocryphal tale recently concerning an astronaut - he was asked by a journalist "how do you feel?". he thought about this for a minute then said "how would you feel out here in space, sitting on top of 4 or 5 million components that were all sourced on a "lowest price wins" basis?"
Samsung made two basic errors.

1. They wanted the Note 7 to come out before the iPhone 7, so it wasn't tested properly. It went straight to full production with aflawed design.
2. As soon as the problem was known they should have done a product recall on ALL the Note 7s. They didn't to that. And it now appears that replacement units are also catching fire.
Their brand has been damaged by this.
