Photos Too Big For Emails

Recently, I've sent a couple of emails in which I've attached photos. I noticed the photos are MASSIVE. How do I make them smaller for emails please. I'm using an Apple iPad. Thank you.

If the recipient needs the photos at the original size why not use wetransfer, mailbigfile or yousendit (now hightail) - these are all free. Using these the file is stored on their server and the recipient gets a link to download it.

Thank you both. I don't get a pop-up that asks me if I want to change picture size:-(
