How do I stop Outlook Express?

Please help.....

Can anyone tell me how to stop Outlook Express running automatically when I boot up my PC?

You don't say which operating system you're using. The following is the route for Windows ME (and is probably very similar in other operating systems):

Click 'Start' / Go to 'Settings', then click on 'Taskbar & Start Menu' / Click on 'Advanced' / Click on 'Remove' / Select 'Outlook Express' / Click 'Remove' / Click 'Close' / Click 'OK'.

Thanks for your reply. I'm using Windows XP

I've carried out your instructions as below however I still get an error message on start up which reads " Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default mail client"

I currently have hotmail set as my default client.

It's precisely because of problems like this that I refuse to have XP on my computer!

I'd assumed that Windows was working to a simple instruction meaning "When Windows starts, start Outlook Express" (without necessarily connecting to your e-mail server to check your mail).

It looks as if Windows XP is working to an instruction meaning "When Windows starts, check for new mail". (This means that it will not only start Outlook Express but also try to connect to your e-mail server. Now that you've stopped Outlook Express from automatically loading, your computer is stil trying to check for new mail but it can't find Outlook Express to do the job). This means that your problem is buried somewhere inside your Windows settings. The problem is that I know very little about XP (other than we use it at work and I hate it!).

My only suggestion at the moment is to go to Start / Help and search for information on actions at Startup. Somewhere there has to be a check-box which you simply need to un-tick but finding it might be a problem!

Perhaps someone else out there is more familiar with XP than me?

Try this long shot:

Click 'Start', 'Settings' and then 'Control Panel'. In 'Control Panel' click on an icon called 'Scheduled Tasks'. In this utility you can tell Windows what to run at specific times, like when the PC boots up. Is there anything in there that looks like Outlook Express has been scheduled to run at a specific time?

Thanks for your answer. I've had a look in Scheduled tasks as recommended, Outlook Express isn't scheduled to run, nor is it on the list of possibles to select. Nevermind

Hi I have hotmail, I uninstalled Outlook Express, I later wanted it back so just ran a search engine to get it back, if you do this you must remember to keep your login info Password  Outlook email address etc. I had no problem, may have been lucky.
