When I close Outlook Express a window pops up that says.
" To free up disc space, Outlook Express can compact messages. This may take a few minutes".
Then two boxes labelled OK and cancel. I always click on cancel.
Can anyone tell me how to stop this window opening?

click "ok" instead of cancel.

its only compressing the text of the messages, it's a "good thing"

Thanks to Fever28 and Postdog for their replies, but will the window still keep opening when I close Outlook Express?
You won't get the message again until OE detects that compacting messages is again necessary to fee up space.

I get the message maybe once every couple of months. It depends on how many emails you receive/send.
