I have got to return my PC for repair. They advise me to backup any important Data. But what exactly do I need to backup ?

I have saved data such as "My Documents" , " My favourites" and my E-mails but is there any other Data that really needs saving as some of the files such as "Program files" are far too large to save to disc.

Thanks for any advice in advance.

Well, you seem to have what you want. I'd also back-up all the program install files that I'd downloaded (the exe. files that you download for programs you want on your PC), that way if they have to reformat it, you won't have to download them all or install them all off seperate discs again.

Also, ensure that you don't leave any sensitive data on there, such as bank details or addresses and such. You never know who might decide to take a peek these days.
If your PC was stolen and you got a replacement from your insurance company what would you miss from the old one?
Pictures? Music files?
What can't be replaced easily?
If you want to include familiar settings for often used programs (these can be reset after reinstalling each of them but can be time consuming) then it all gets a little technical.

Whatever you can think of, save to CD or to a spare hard drive.

Thanks Mobius1 & stevie21 for your answers.

Thats a good point Mobius1 about the sensitive data. But where would the bank details be stored ? I do make payments online but I am always asked to type in my bank or credit card details. Are they still stored  on my PC in a file somewhere? I am a novice regarding computers so if you could put me in the right direction it would be most appreciated.
