I'm looking to buy a new laptop.

I have always been happy with Dell except my current one which was bought hastily reminds me of something from the ELC.

Consequently I want to get touchy/feely with my new one and am wondering where to shop.

I loathe the likes of PCWorld and Currys and prefer the calmer, more informed and less pressured environs of John Lewis.

Any suggestions for other places to visit or particular makes of lap top I should consider.

I am only wanting a laptop for web browsing, emails, and using MS Office. Dell Inspiron has satisfied my needs in most cases.

thanks for any recommendations.

I agree that John Lewis is a much better place to evaluate a new laptop...it's where I got mine. You'll also get a minimum 2-year warranty included at no extra.
I've been very pleased with my Acer...but any of the brands that JLP stock should be a good bet, because they won't stock mediocre/unreliable stuff.
I have an Acer Aspire which I bought from John Lewis. It's great.

We are subscribers to Which?, that edition seems to have disappeared though!
Staples. They have always been helpful when I have asked questions.
Agree with Tilly2 - I'm very satisfied with my Acer Aspire. The previous one was a Lenovo - never again.

Thanks all, I will look at Acer and turn the house upside down in search of the recent Which? mag.
