When I plug my memoy card into the side of the computer to download photos from my Canon camera. I can down load OK but I have some photos in the DCIM file somehow, and now I cannot delete them on the laptop. I cant find them when I look from the camera. I go into Computer, Local Disk, CANON-DC (G:), DCIM. I also have a file there called M0100.CTG which says "Windows cannot open" so can I delete this as well somehow? Just want to have a clean up off the memory stick. The file 100 CANON is fine, I can delete off this and its the only one I want to use. Tia

Why not just FORMAT the memory card?
I don't know if this might help

for the memory car itself, you can probably reformat in the camera.

Others may have better advice however.
Most camera manufactures say that it's best to format cards in the camera rather than on a computer.

If I used another memory card, would I not get this problem? I have no idea how my photos got into this file in the first place.I am not at all technical folks !
As has been said before - if you have no pictures you still want on the memory card, use the camera menu to 'format' the card - that will get rid of all pictures and just leave the directory structure ready for your next lot of pictures.
Question Author
Sorry I am a bit dim, how do I format the card ??
There will be a "menu" option on your camera to format the memory card. Press the "menu" button, scroll through the options until you find "format". It usually asks you confirm that you want to delete everything from the card, so select the "yes" option.
I should have said - on our Canon camera the "format" option comes up under the "tools" menu (the same one used for setting the time, screen brightness etc).

Not my day. Format doesn't come up under any headers in menu. But I have Reset All under Tools. However nothing happens when I press it as I have Card Locked! on screen now so I cant do anything. What is going on ??

Well it said on the web for a locked screen to move the little switch on the memory card. So I took out the memory card and moved the orange switch on the side, got a black screen, so I moved the little switch back, now I have the screen OK for videos but still a black screen for taking photos. Still says card locked. I will look on web for any other answers ... Can anyone help ? Still need an answer for formatting camera ... Feel like throwing it in the bin now...
Question Author
OK black screen sorted out. Just the problem with formatting and Screen Locked ....
The slider should be nearest the top of the card ie, nearest to the contacts on the back; in that position it is unlocked and the card can be written to , images deleted and the card formatted.
With the slider in that position look again for FORMAT in all the menus - it was probably greyed out if the card was locked.
teeny weeny thing on the side of the card itself
You might be best buying a new 'Ultra' card which can handle the file size of your photographs much quicker. I have an 8gb Sandisk Ultra in my Sony compact camera and have never had a problem.

Thanks so much everyone, all sorted now.
