One of my relatives is going on a 'In the footsteps of Jesus' holiday in September. I find that a bit ironic.

Israel!
is this one of the ones where you lug a cross through the 12 stations? They can probably request dummy nails.
Question Author
I don't think so, jno.
LOL
Why do you find it 'ironic'?
Do these footsteps include the bit where he walked on water? I'd hope that's optional.
that's a shame; you could liven up dinner parties by telling them about your friend who was crucified.
Question Author
I find it ironic because of the teachings of Jesus seem so far removed from that particular country now.
Question Author
I didn't put this in R&S. I'm more concerned about her safety.

Don't joke about it. Plenty of people in the middle east can tell that story for real.

I keep checking the Foreign Office site.
the FCO say don't go to Gaza, which probably wasn't on th itinerary anyway

Bethlehem is worth visiting, though you don't get to see the actual forceps; and that may return to the "safe" list once Eid is over.
I think jesus would find it ironic if he ever existed.

The vicar has arranged the holiday. I hope it works out for them.
I have every respect for the feelings of Jewish people re. their sufferings under the Nazi regime. But I am appalled at their treatment of the Palestinians & the theft of land that does not belong to them. Personally I would give them a wide berth & would not wish to encourage them by holidaying there & giving them my hard earned cash. I think that they should be branded as war criminals. Have nothing to do with them.
Question Author
It looks as though Bethlehem will be off the itinerary.
that's a shame. I suppose they will get to Galilee and Gethsemane and other points of interest.

If they get to Jerusalem and want to visit Temple Mount (which they may not, if they're Christians; but it's beautiful) I think you have to go there in the morning.
Personally just from a safety point of view I wouldn't dream of holidaying (or flying to) anywhere near that area at the moment.

That's because it’s not a Christian country - although there's plenty of evidence of Christianity to be seen there.

Clearly.
