Hi all,

I downloaded the microsoft anti-virus free software a while ago.

I've now got a message saying the software for Windows XP is no longer supported and that I should consider getting a new computer.

Now I'm on the dole so a new computer isn't an option, and I like my battered and bruised PC.

Can I download any other anti-virus sortware (I've got Malware as well) that won't go out of date on me?

Thanks all in advance

I figure most other free AV would sort you. Only MS have a vested interest in getting you to buy a new operating system from them.
I'm still using XP and never had any problems for years using Avast:

I also use Avast on XP and recommend it.
Avast, Avg, Macafee

And also get Malwarebytes.

Are they alternatives, because I was always under the impression that one should only have one anti virus programme?

Yes alternatives. One should only be running one AV at a time. Other scans can usually be temporarily run on top at any time though.
