I have got Windows 8.1 now and have Firefox browser - everything has been going great guns until this morning that BT Hub is waivering - power light flickering and then wireless and finally broadband conk out - then after a time they come on again.
However whilst I was on this site power went off randomly again. Whilst not knowing anything re Technology I do think the BT Hub is too old - would that be correct - also BT my provider have sent me a letter saying that I can now have BT Infinity Fibre Optic.
I don't know what this but shall I accept this and if I do, will it be easy to install. Thanks for any replies. JJCon
I changed from BT's copper Broadband to Infinity three months ago. (The only reason I changed was that they were charging me almost twice as much for copper as I could get Infinity for and would not reduce the price). They instal everything for you. However I have noticed no appreciable difference in speed (I rarely do downloads, etc). However, for two months I had extreme difficulty with the new system. It dropped out regularly and frequently and I lost service for lengthy spells (many hours) entirely on occasions. I won't bore you with the details of the calls, visits and aggravation I have endured.
BT Hub went on the blink there some minutes ago - again -. Had no choice but to studiously look at it. After a moment's deliberation am realising rather the problem lying with Broadband it is the Power causing the delay. It flickers and flickers and when it becomes static the Wireless and Broadband finally come on.
A guy told me years ago to pull the Power button out but keep running it - which I have done - god I hope I am not going to have more problems.
Now I have established it - seems to be the Power (I think) causing the prob - anybody care to enlighten me what next to do when it happens again. Thanks JJCon
no grasscarp - I dread making the call as you have to go through so many options and I (with being deaf) get stressed. Maybe you can contact them via email.
conne, go for the fibre optic. We changed last year and we haven't looked back since, the connection is fast - and bonus, if the power goes off for any reason, it doesn't take long for the hub to reconnect and you're back on-line again. Before we switched we often had to ring India to get the thing back on if there was a power failure.
You don't have to do anything to install it - the bloke makes an appointment and comes and switches you over. It took about ten minutes. Sorted.
I have put the links onto desktop - so will see what will happen. Plug of computer had loosened a little so shoved it in. Maybe full power wasn't operating and so far so good.
