Emails which came into on my previous mobile when I was away from home remained on the phone inbox, even if I logged in and read them on my pc when I came home. On the Samsung they vanish - is there any way I can save them on both?

If you set up your devices to access emails via IMAP then they are stored on the mail server until you delete them.

If you are using POP3 then normally the messages are transferred from the server to whatever device you use at that time. There may be an option for leaving a copy on the server.
On my phone (Nokia), i had to go into email settings and adjust how long they were shown for. My phone was only showing the last couple of days (although not deleting them). So i changed the option to "show all".
