To try to get rid of both problems, download, install and run the free version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:
http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/
(NB: When installing, deselect the option to accept a trial of the 'PRO' version).

Between my post and your response Chris I did run malwarebytes and the first scan didn't work but the full scan did the trick.Both problems have been resolved.
