Like thousands of others, I took the advantage of free upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. Firstly I hadn't anticipated a wasted 3 hour download time but more to the point, although some things appear to be better, for me, I would like to revert to Windows 8. Does anyone know how I could do this please? My Samsung laptop came with Windows 8 pre-installed. Therefore no disc. Thanks. Tel

I did yesterday by simply using the refresh pc settings, took it back to W8 with IE10, I do seem to have lost some of the Samsung aps that came with the notebook, but I didn't use them anyway.
Having said that, I did get one comment saying that I'd been lucky to do so, so I may have just been lucky.

What don't you like about W8.1? I find it not very different from W8.
I should add, it wasn't my intention to remove 8.1, I just got a message halfway through the refresh saying that I'd have to download 8.1 again from the ap store.
to all intents and purposes 8 & 8.1 are the same !?
Minor differences only, in my opinion.
Your Samsung laptop should have a "Windows return to factory settings" option that will take it back to Windows 8.

This will reinstall the copy of Windows 8 that is "hidden" on the hard disk.

See the documentation that came with the laptop, or see the support page on the Samsung web site.
VHG.....I think it would be a bit drastic to return the laptop to factory settings and loose all peronal files, accounts etc. Far better to do what Frank did and refresh the settings which is possible with Windows 8.

Thanks VHG, I would like to have given the 8.1 a try if I hadnt had a problem initially. I needed to save an important word document to My Docs for future reference but when I tried to retrieve I found it wasnt there. Other attempts also failed to reach My Docs. I think Open Office is an 8.1 addition which maybe causing the problem but Im not sure enough to attempt to delete the Open Office program. Your advice on this would be very much appreciated. I.e. where did my saved document go. And can I delete the Open Office prog? Tel
Sorry folk, it appears that, without an installation disc for W8, it is Not possible to 'Refresh'. Perhaps Frank had a disc for the purpose concerned.!
Strange, no disk was involved, I don't have one.
It just occurred to me, that I must have downloaded the beta version rather than the proper one, that was why I was able to get rid of it by refreshing, doh!
Frank - did you not get it by going to the Windows Store via the start screen? That does the update to 8.1, rather than having to go to a website and manually download it.
Not sure what I did TBH, I'll have to try it again tomorrow.
