I have bought a freeview box which I wanted to use in the bedroom myself, as we have cable in the living room. However I cannot connect the scart as the portable TV doesnt have a scart connection. Is it possible to get a connector from the tv to the scart, someone has suggested a 3 rca to scart connector, does anyone technical know if this is the right thing. I havent got a clue. Thanks

Does your portable TV have any inputs apart from the regular aerial connection ? (Sometimes they are behind a flap)

If so, what are they ?

The other option may be to use the aerial output from your freeview box if it has an RF modulator (most don't) but your manual will say. Then the TV can be tuned into the freeview box in the say way as you would with a video recorder.

The tv only has an aerial connector and 2 sets of red and white sockets for connectors? the freeviewbox doesnt have a modulator as you suggested.Any further advice would be appreciated. thanks

The red and white sockets are the "RCA" type referred to in your question.  (same as a "phono" connector).  You could try an adaptor from these to Scart - Try Argos for a universal kit of connectors, they used to sell them for about 7.

I have tried these, but they only tune into the audio on freeview, which goes on while the tv channels are still on.

What you require is a Scart to RF modulator. Unfortunately such a device would cost around 40.

Ah - you're right, red and white do the audio only, if there's a video input too it will be yellow. You need all 3 - hence the term 3 RCA connector.

Sounds like you are a bit stuffed I'm afraid to say. You could buy a SCART to RF (aerial) connvertor but this is probably going to cost you as much or more than the freeview box.

Any chance of returning the freeview box for one with an RF modulator built-in ?

Not an ideal solution, but you can buy RCA to RF modulators for around 4 which you could cobble together with the Scart to RCA adaptor.

I tend to agree with BillyNM about returning/replacing the box provided one with a modulator isn't significantly more expensive.
