I live in the FOrest of Dean on the side of a hill overlooking the forest and a valley. The view is stupendous. Newish neighbours further along the road are erecting a fence across their back garden some ten foot high. This is totally blocking the view to their house. I cannot imagine a reason for it. There is no one at all to overlook their garden. I think it is a great waste of something really beautiful. What do you think folks?

Perhaps they have a huge dog they need to keep in.... or they're nudists.
seriously 10 feet? in most places you cant have more than 2 metres which is only 6 foot 6
Sounds a bit mad. I love the Forest of Dean. Can't think of a reason, unless they have some dodgy habits?

Estimating the height, it towered over the chappie building it. I like the nudist suggestion,
Are they doing at perhaps as deer prevention?
sorry typo meant to be it not at.

The deer do come up to the back gardens but are very timid. I feed them when they come to my back gate, they almost take it from my hands but not quite, I have to drop it about six inches away.
My bro had a haha (I think it is called) some sort of ditch that cannot spoil the view but keeps the wild animals away.
deer are a piggin nuisance round here, they will raze a garden to the ground in one night
"This is totally blocking the view to their house"

Errrm, could this be why?
Caran, your location sounds quite idyllic. Any chance of posting some photos of the area and the views from your house?

Stewey not sure, not good on things like that, plus iPad drives me mad, but I will try.
I could do with some deer!
I think they ought to have applied for Planning Permission to erect a fence as tall as you suggest.
OK, try it, Caran. I think we'd all like to see some views of the English countryside, especially those of us who don't live in England:)
I can't imagine a fence higher than 6 feet being allowed in the countryside. It would be a blight on the landscape. I suggest you stroll past their back gate a couple of times and take a deep breath in and see if anything smells, errr, odd. Also , if they erect a CCTV system, I would begin to think it's very dodgy.
Perhaps they don't want you looking at them through your binoculars while they are swimming / sunning in the nude.
Bist thee a Forester, old butt?
