Hi, For the past week every time I turn my laptop on I have to go through the whole 'start up repair' scenario, before I can start using my laptop. Does anybody know how I can resolve this problem, so that my laptop will just turn on normally ?
Thanks.

" 'start up repair'"

What is the start up repair? What do you mean?
It sounds like it is not shutting down properly.
There should be a option on the screen to "Start Windows Normally"
How are you shutting it down?
take it to a tech & get it fixed if its worth it
@society...... 'Start-up Repair' is an automatic feature in Windows to diagnose and (if possible) correct start-up problems...Sorry if my explanation is somewhat brief.

@gsr600....Give folk on AB a chance to help...Advice here comes for nothing.:-)

@Zubar....Have you scanned for any possible Virus.? What is your Operating System (e.g. Windows Vista; 7; 8; or whatever). Also please answer the question from WyeDyed. As much info as possible will help.

I am shutting it down properly each time I use my computer, but every time I turn on the computer I get the start up repair screen. It won't let me pick the option of 'starting windows normally', because it automatically switches back to the 'start up repair screen'. I am forced to go through the whole 'start up repair' each time and it restores the computer to an earlier date. But this is repeated each time I start my computer up. I am using Windows 7 and I have had this laptop for about 18 months. On my previous computer I had an option where I could chose my own restore point, but on this computer the restore points are fixed to about 5-6 choices! Thanks
Zuber....Please answer my question.......Have you scanned for any possible Virus.?

Yes I have scanned it twice.
Good morning Zubar......Sorry to keep asking you questions; but I am trying to eliminate the sort of things which could possibly be causing your problem.

You have said that you are automatically taken back to a restore point. It's therefore my guess that something has gone wrong since the date concerned.

Have you downloaded any programme since the restore date involved; or taken an up-date to an existing programme.? Is your Anti Virus by any chance Norton.? What Browser are you using.?

I shall be out until this afternoon but will 're-thread' latter today.

I have been having problems with my sky router, so did download a sky repair tool to reset the router a few weeks ago. Yes you are 100% right I do have Norton Anti-Virus installed on my laptop. The browser I use is internet explorer. Many Thanks.
Hi Zubar......I doubt that resetting your Router would have caused your problem, but I am aware that Norton is known to cause difficulty similar to what you are experiencing. Hence the reason for my taking a guess that your AV programme was perhaps Norton.

The only way you are going to find-out if it is a 'start-up' problem with Norton is to temporarily disengage your AV, then close-down and re-boot.

P.S. to above........ I encountered a serious problem this morning with my E/mail account.

My default Browser is Firefox and I use Windows Mail. However,no way could I enter my account because I kept getting a message saying that there was a corrupt programme on my computer and IE 8 had reset AOL as the Search Engine. However, it was impossible to remove AOL which I didn't want.

Without boring you with all the details, the only way I could resolve matters was to up-grade IE 8 to IE 9 and then re-establishing my E/mail account; which was refusing to remember my password because, for some unknown reason, it was continually being removed from the record.

Strange things do happen. It sometimes becomes a matter of trial and error. Hence my wondering what edition of IE do you use.
