My daughter had an ipad 4 for xmas...£400 worth. It stopped charging 3 months later and tescos replaced it. It's now done the same again. It will only charge when the unit is off and then it takes ages.

Is there an issue with these units regarding charging ? im pretty sure she doesn't mis-treat it (although she's only 14 !!!!)

Many thanks

It is the iPad not the charger I trust ?

yeah...we bought a new charger !!!!!
How flat does she let the battery get and are you using the original cable, I ask as my version 2 will only charge when switched on if the level is over 10% and, if using a longer, third party, cable it needs to be over 15%. However hers is still within warranty so you're covered, might be worth trying direct with Apple as I have known people just get straight swaps no questions asked.
Are you using a charger designed for an iPad? iPad's take a lot of power to charge. For instance an ipod charger is not powerful enough to charge an iPad, this is also true of most PC usb sockets. What happens is it cannot charge while it is on and will only charge slowly if it is off, which seems the same as your problem

Pretty sure she's using the right charger....she doesn't have an ipod and is using the charger that came with the unit.
Should be 12 watts (fellow supporter)
There may be a technical glitch in the design. Mine gave up charging from the charger several months after I got it, so I put it on the USB on my Mac overnight which charged it up and fixed the fault. Had no trouble since.
