Basically, I want to download a video from youtube to my PC, so I can play it back at my leisure.
I thought this was possible (or maybe I dreamt it ??), but I've been messing around on youtube and I can't see any options for this.
Does anyone know if it's possible, or did I just dream it lol ??

It's technically illegal to store most Youtube video on your computer (because of copyright restrictions) so you can't expect Youtube to help you to do it. However there are plenty of ways round it, such as this:
http://www.ant.com/video-downloader
Yes it's possible, though as has been pointed out in another thread today, it's illegal. However if you use Firefox as your browser there are quite a few add ons that will allow you to do it.
no need to download it ,just add it to favourites,i have a folder full of youtube favourites watch anytime you like
Same here knockavacca. Only problem is that if and when the clip gets deleted from youtube it is not available anymore.
Further, Chisgel & Knockavacca, having a video stored on your PC means that you can copy it to portable devices which might not have a fast enough broadband connection (or any connection at all) for viewing videos on Youtube.
Also you'll use up your broadband 'allowance' unless you have unlimited.

Cheers for the replies - at least I know I didn't dream it lol :)
I want to download the vid, just in case it's removed. It's a one-off vid, so if it's removed, there won't be any others to watch in its place :(

I've just tried downloading the video and got the following message:
"The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden".
Anyone have any idea what that's all about ??
Is it possible that the person who's uploaded the video, has altered their settings in some way, to prevent the video from being downladed ??
I wouldn't think so, but you never know. As Chris said earlier, Youtube maybe preventing the download. What program are you using to download?

I'm using the "Ant youtube downloader", in the link provided by Buenchico in the 1st reply.
I might try a different downloader and see if that helps =/
If you download real player you have an option to download from youtube, just click the tab that says download.
this is what i currently use http://www.freemake.com/free_video_downloader/ but have used various such downloaders in the past
I use the one that bibblebub uses and I have used that today with no problems.

For some reason, that "Ant youtube downloader" didn't want to know so i've uninstalled that :(
Anyway, I've installed that one in the link provided by bibblebub and it's downloaded fine (2nd attempt, as the 1st attempt kept freezing). It prob didn't help being such a long vid - it's approx 1 hour 45 mins long.
Thanks for all the help and replies peeps :)
glad it's worked
Just type into Google YouTube video downloader, some of them can do all the work online. My favorite would be http://www.youtubeinmp4.com/ because it downloads as a widely compatible format and doesn't require JavaScript so it's fast and easy
I recommend you this new plugin (compatible with all browsers). Test it and you'll see http://bit.ly/13qEL92

It is possible to download youtube mp3 by https://mp3converter.live. It is the best youtube to mp3 converter which easily converts youtube video in mp3 as well as in various other formats.
