I have been asked to call a certain mobile number between certain times but don't know who I would be calling or where they would be located. Is there any legal way I can find out this information prior to making the call please?

I just google them first- or wait ans see if they ring back
How were you asked?
Asked by who? A random voicemail or text message? Did they give a reason?

As Factor suggested, I usually google the number as some scam numbers or commons ones who nuisance call, make sales calls etc... can be found on the net.

If in doubt, do not call it.
Google the number and see what comes up. Try it both as 1 long number and again with a space between the code and number. You should get a hit on the code part to tell you which network it belongs to.

Brilliant! Thank you all so much for your responses. I never even thought of Google. Being bereaved within the last year I've been at a bit of a low ebb. Turns out the number is an escort agency!!!! Thanks again.........
A mobile phone is by defintion mobile. It will be somewhere in the UK (or else the call receiver pays the difference) but normally I don't think there is any way a member of the public can locate the phone. However as you seem to have found out, you may be able to discover the owner depending on the circumstances. (Usually if they are a commercial enterprise.)

What I'm unsure of is why you'd consider getting back to a mystery number you clearly didn't make first contact with. Need to beware of premium number scams. Or even paying for a call that benefits, oh, say an escort agency, rather than you.
