Hi

Can anyone recommend a website for people contemplating separation?  My cousin has put up with pretty bad psychological abuse from her husband (and kept it secret) since they were married 14 years ago, but it has got worse and worse over the past year.  She's now at the stage where she's thinking about leaving him but he has undermined her confidence and self-esteem to such an extent that she feels she won't be able to cope without him.  Apart from giving her moral support I'd like to be able to show her that she's a victim of abuse and that it doesn't have to be tolerated.  Does anyone know of a site I could have a look at?  I've been doing a bit of Googling but couldn't find very much that was appropriate.

Thanks a lot.

Thanks for that Andy.  I'll get a number for the Samaritans and see if she'll call them.

I'd just like to tell you that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.  I was in the same situation as your cousin during my first marriage, I stayed with him for 15 years but finally found the strength to leave.

I am now married to a lovely man and I couldn't be happier.

I saw a counsellor for about a year because my self-esteem was non-existent as a result of the way I ws treated by my ex.  My first step was to speak to my GP.

I wish your cousin all the luck in the world - you being there for her will be a fantastic help too.
