Very recently I see pop up adverts on most of the web pages I look at; on My Yahoo, Answerbank (more than the normal ones), usually offering me the chance to win an mobile phone. Can I alter settings so that these do not appear? I don't mind the normal ones that sit quietly in the background, but these new ones tend to flash and jump about a bit! Thanks for any help.
I use IE and Windows 7 if that is helpful.

AB depends on income from advertisers, so it wouldn't help this site if every ABer were to download and run a free program like 'Adblock Plus', that removes all ads from AB's pages,

Thanks for that Heathfield, however, it isn't the normal ads that are annoying me it is one in particular that seems to be offering the chance to win an i-pad or phone. It says something about it being not an ad from this site, but a plug in.
you should have a pop-up blocker, it says here
