I've noticed my computer getting slower and slower despite me hardly downloading anything. I was told by a friend that i should download cc cleaner which would erase files and free up space which could be slowing my pc down???

I have Microsoftsecurity essentials and Malwarebytes. Would it be beneficial to me to download cc cleaner?

Is there any possibility it might delete stuff i may actually need (I'm not i.t literate so wouldn't understand any jargon and if one of these programs tells me that something's slowing down my computer and do i want to delete it, i might press yes and not know what it is exactly i'm deleting)

Finally if it is beneficial to me, where could i download it free from?

Tia.

As long as you only use the default settings of CCleaner you can't do any damage. It is a great little program for easily cleaning up the junk files on your PC.

Make sure you get the free version.

Thanks for the reply daffy654, i'll download it now and hopefully fingers crossed my computer speeds up as it's really annoying that pages used to load in seconds and now take between 5-10 seconds to load, sometimes longer.

Thanks again.

I downloaded it and went through the startup and came across a page with various boxes ticked and unticked which had a the "run cccleaner tab which i clicked, i was then presented with this message and don't know what to do

"This process will permanently delete files from your system.

Are you sure you wish to proceed?"

Okay i've analyzed it and now pressed run and was checking out the tabs it would "permanently delete" before running program and was alarmed to see at the bottom
Aplications adobe acrobat 10.0
Aplications mcaphee antivirus
Multimedia adobe flash player
Multimedia microsoft silverlight
Multimedia windows center
Multimedia windows player
Utilities window defender
Windows ms antimalware
Windows ms search
Windows ms security client

^Why have these been selected as i need those? Could i untick those boxes?

Anyone???

Would it be removing the whole programs i put above or just useless information held in those files?
They are safe to leave ticked froozy, it just deletes the temporary files that are left behind from scans and updates, not the programs themselves.

Thank you so much daffy654, i didn't want to risk it so have been popping on all morning hoping you'd come back and answer.
From time to time questions arise in AB about cc cleaner.

Personally, I think it is a waste if time when one can get rid of rubbish manually.

Anyway, it might be worth a look at what others have said on the matter.

Remove the tick from Windows ms security client otherwise it removes the log files for your virus scans and you'll start getting errors that a scan has never run.
