My son has just taken delivery of a brand new pc. It has HDMI,DVI and RGB connections and is using his LG TV/monitor for the display.

1st connected hdmi to hdmi nothing.
2nd tried vga to hdmi via an adaptor still nothing.
3rd tried vga to vga using my monitor and still nothing.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks.

If it's a separate graphics card re-seat the graphics card (just remove it and plug it in again) as they often come loose in transit.

If it's a graphics card built onto the mainboard (or a laptop) return the computer.

Separate graphics card...now working - thank you.

The problem now is it doesn't display full screen on his tv. His ps3 and 360 both display full screen whereas the pc has an approx 1" border on all 4 sides.
The pc perceives this border to be the edge of the display.
if you are using HDMI then you need to set the scaling on the computer.

For ATI cards open catalyst control center, select my digital flat panel in the left panel, then select scaling options under that and set the overscan/underscan slider so the picture fills the whole screen.

The same option is available on nvidia card somewhere in their control panel, but I don't know where that is off the top of my head.
