the 32'' sony tv we have bought makes a very loud ping when the tv is switched on and the 'sony ' logo appears ,is there some way this can be switched off/ disabled.The rather arrogant young man at the sony shop says not. Is this really the case?

If it can be turned off it's under settings in the menu and called "startup sound" just set it to off.
