bit of a problem with microsoft security essentials...

...I have MSE installed but the automatic definition updates are not working,therefore my 'PC status potentially unprotected' and the icon is amber.I've tried to manually update but get 'SE couldn't complete the virus and spyware definitions update because of an internet or network connectivity problem'.The last definition was created on 21.6.12.and I've tried to update 5 times since then.I've run MSE for a couple of years now with no previous problems.I run Windows 7 and IE9.
Can anyone help me please.

Check the PC's clock. If it's wrong, update it from Internet time and try again.

If that still doesn't work, I'd suggest uninstalling and reinstalling MSE, as it sounds like it has become corrupt in some way. At least, that will give you the latest definitions and signatures...
