If it is a BT line I know it can be done, I don't know about other phone companies. Just use your mobile as usual and send a text message to your land line and try it. your phone rings and you get a voice message of the text.
It usually plays a little tune before the text message is read out though., and the phone rings until you read the text, it's quite annoying!
Yep, just text it as normal and then it gets read out by a robot at the other end. Quite amusing for rude messages after a few creme de menthes!!
Well said Hammer - it seems that I'm not the only person who has done that. I intended to send the rude message to someone's mobile and accidentally sent it to my own landline.
I almost fell over laughing when a female Stephen Hawking started talking dirty to me.
I have a BT line and it doesn't work.
I've tried it and had no success if an answering machine cuts in. The message just gets lost before the "beep".
I'm not with BT, if that makes a difference I don't know.

One of my friends had a landline phone which actually recieves text messages to the handset, and you can send from them. It's a Panasonic but I'm not sure of the model.
