The old version of Windows Mail used to sort the Inbox with the newest messages at the top.

Windows Live Mail on my newest lappy sorts them into "Conversation" ... so I have to scroll down all the massages to find any new ones.

Which gets on my tits, frankly.

Is there a way to tell it to put new messages at the top?

Try:

Options (top right under your name) > More Options > Reading Email > Conversations and faster reading:

Choose to 'read messages individually' rather than 'group messages by conversation'.

I'm having a bad day.

I can't even find Options.

Above the list of messages is a drop down menu, where the option to sort by "Date" has (Conversations) in brackets. I want sorting by Date ... but WITHOUT "Conversations".
Go to your inbox.

Top right of page, under your name it says Profile | Sign out.

Under that is Options.

Follow the steps above.

aaah, okay ...

Sorry.

This is the application that used used to be Outlook Express and, for some reason, is now called Windows Live Mail in my Start menu.
Click on View
Click the little arrow under "Conversations" and select off
Click the column heading "Date" to sort descending or descending by date (it's a toggle).
Trust MS to confuse things by calling both their desktop client and their webmail app by the same name.
Ah!

In which case, click View and look in the Arrangement section of the ribbon. You'll see both Sort By... and Sort Order...
