Good column by Vicky C in The Observer today.

Just how far do we want our lives to be "risk free"?

Do we want "the Government" to protect us from ourselves?

Do we want hotel windows that only open three inches, in case we have the urge to jump out?

The H&S are going too far JJ, we have all learned through falls etc.
I'll stick with the risks. Quite enjoy a bit of adrenaline pumping through my body when I scare myself!
No risk usually = no fun.
Pathetic - all this H&S and politically correct stuff is really going too far!
personally I'm not sure it's safe to be out of bed.

W Ron.
JJ world gone mad, we need risk to survive.
Please divulge where you can find a hotel window that will open at all! Three inches would be great for some fresh air, but ALL hotels I stay in ( I travel for employment) won't open... sealed... nothing enters, nothing escapes... at least here in the U.S. and most international destinations.
Agreed Clanad. I hate hotels where you can`t open the window. My eyes are always red in the morning with the dryness. There was a hotel we used to use In Cape Town (years ago) and it had big, big windows. It was a famous room party trick for people to run at the window, grap hold of the curtains, and swing out (on the 5th floor). Only after a few shandies though.
Times have changed, apparently Sierra Juliet... was just talking to an acquaintence who does 3 trips a week to Amsterdam, which I used to do back before GPS nav... asked him how he liked it and he said " Great! I keep a set of golf clubs in a locker at the hotel and play golf everytime I'm there"... so much for the younger generation...
