I've had some problems configuring my new wireless router but it seems to be up and running now.

But I'm concerned that I might have changed the security settings while I was sorting it all out - how can I check that my wireless line is a secure line that no one else can get access to?

The quickest way is with XP, right click on the Icon for your wireless connection and choose View Available Wireless Networks. If yours is secure it will be displayed with its name and a padlock to show security is applied.
If you are just sharing an internet connection it does not make much difference. If you have a network I advise you have security. Depending on where you live it would be difficult to get someones signal through walls etc.
see if WEP is enabled or not. you need to have encryption to be enabled for it to be secure; ideally as many bits as you can have that all devices supports.
