My H D is partioned. At present it boots up on drive C: (with Windows ME), if I load ME onto D: and change the BIOS to boot up on D: will I still be able use the original internet settings on C: e-mail etc.

Thanks Cyrilbiker

The new version of the OS will be set up with default settings which may, for the most part, be similar to what you have now, but specific settings such as email accounts will not exist.

I'm not sure if you can easily migrate your old settings in WinME.

May I ask why you want to boot using the D: drive?

You can change the BIOS so it boots up from a hard drive or a cd drive or a network drive but not which partition on a hard drive.
But you can install an OS to another partition and it will boot from there (BIOS is irrelevant).

Main reason for wanting to boot up through D; is explorer is causing too many freezes with "exploer has caused an unknown error"   So I thought a new loading of windows from a different sector without the hassle of formatting and reloading all software etc might be an easy alternative. Plus daughter has loads of coursework software loaded. Ttanks Cyrilbiker
Over install it: if you have a full ME version then run the setup in windows and just remember to install it to c:\windows NOT c:\windows.000 This will preserve all your applications and settings. If you don't have a full ME version then boot up with the windows installation diskette, go to C:\windows and rename win.com to win.old (ren win.com win.old) then run the setup installation. Again, remember to install it to c:\windows NOT c:\windows.000 and it should overinstall itself with a brand new version of ME but keep the applications and settings.
