Hi Al,I've been looking at a few videos on youTube and trying to follow them, but as stated in my post I can't brush in a colour. Thanks!!
I don't use 'Elements. (I'm lucky enough to have a 'full' version of Photoshop). But it seems to me that you've not set the foreground colour (which is what Photoshop's paint and fill tools use).

The select a colour from the palette, see here:

To select a colour from an image, select the eye-dropper tool and click on the relevant colour in that image.

Hi Chris I've tried it but it's still the same.No matter what colour I try it only does the one.........a pale grey. Thanks!!!!!!
ps I haven't tried the second method yet but it's the first I want to succeed.
Have a look through the Adobe forum then .. It's from that original link.

Are you working in Greyscale mode? Change to RGB or CMYK.

Thank you one and all but I've got it sorted. When I clicked on "tools">brushes.I only had two choices and i chose the wrong one.For the life of me I can't understand why the other one wouldn't paint as well so it didn't occur to me to change!!!!!
