hi, i've recently purchased a Compaq Presario CQ56 laptop, and the touchpad has stopped working.

I've installed the software and the drivers for it and still no luck, i'm not sure if i've the right drivers ect.

It's a 64bit windows 7 system btw. I'm currently using a HID mouse.

Any suggestions other than taking it back to Cash Converters?

Double tap the top left corner of the touchpad. (where the little light is lit up telling you the touchpad is disabled.)

There is no light lit up.
A lot of HP/Compaqs have a way of disabling the touchpad... on older models it's a little button just above the touchpad, on newer models it's by double tapping the top left of the touchpad...

From a quick look the CQ56 is available as both sorts if it's this type... http://www.india-serv...rio_CQ56-105TU_-1.jpg ... then the button is above the touchpad.

If it's this type... http://www.bitdynasty...resario-cq56-200c.jpg ... then it's double tap the touchpad.

Tried double tapping, as it's the one with the white dot in the corner for zee light.

But no light comes on or goes off and it still doesn't work.
OK, well that was the obvious answer :)

Have you looked in the device manager to see if it's listed there OK? (right click the word computer on the start menu, select properties and then click on the device manager link on the left...

And this should be the correct driver for it...

Nah, just the HID mouse is listed. I'm going to try the driver now, thanks.

The drivers have installed but still no luck. It's not even listed in the device manager still :L
Try taking the battery out of your laptop and putting it back in again ........ worked for me but don't know why.
Select 'show hidden devices' in Device Manager drop-down and look what you have .. anything 'unknown' or yellow entries .. r-click and remove them all. In your case in 'Mice & P. Devices', and 'USB controllers')
Reboot try again.
Nothing will work if not shown in device manager .. drivers installed or not.
Also check in Add/Remove. Uninstall anything apertaining until you have something showing in Dev Mgr .. or it asks for drivers. You can cancel the ask, then install the drivers .. It should then sort itself.
