Am looking to buy a laptop with a fairly large screen, cd drive/player, fingerprint recognition, long battery life, up to £500. Any ideas anyone? Once you start googling, you are bombarded with information, would help if it could be sifted/narrowed down. Thanks

Haven't got fingerprint recognition on mine, but I'm delighted with my Sony Vaio. Perhaps f/print thingy has been introduced since I bought mine 2 years ago. Good luck
HP Pavilion series includes includes big screen with f/print recog ... don't know how much they cost these days as i've had mine for 3/4 years.
HP Laptops are not cheap if you want a really large screen.

vivandron - your link was only one brand - you can get large screen laptops under £500, although of course they may not have evrything else you want..
chelle...I agree. I was only making a point about HP, as a follow-on to what appeared to be a recommendation from pjw.

If you can forget about fingerprint recognition, start here:

I've bought several laptops from them over the years, and am very happy with my current Toshiba Satellite Pro - 17" screen, 250GB hard disk, 4GB RAM, DVD-RW, etc...
I always like to have a good "fiddle" with things before I buy and value some decent in-store help- so I start off at John Lewis. Useful even if you don't buy there. (They do include 2 years warranty as standard, however).
