Hope you shop till you drop and have a great time in London. Some brilliant places to visit if you're there for a while too and if you have a chance, go on the London Eye and see London in it's spendour from above :0)
I used to work there scooby - I'd worked there for about 2 years and one day noticed out of my office window 'a little castle' and asked my work colleagues what it was (I thought maybe it had been built for a TV programme or something !?!)........... they fell about laughing..... I'd been looking out on the Tower of London for over a year and never noticed it before ooops! I am not very observant !! Enjoy your weekend away - we were up there last weekend and had a fantastic pizza in Franco Manca in Brixton Market....highly recommend it.
Sorry to correct you all there but the streets are not paved with gold. You should go online (which you already are) and get an Oyster card for the Tube trains. If you are seeing a lot of the sights then you should also get a London Pass. Both can be found at the site below:
My son and his family recently went and stayed with his friend. They all went on the open top bus and said it was WELL worth the money. SO much to see. That's if you have time in between shopping trips! Have a great time.
a word or two of warning, the streets are paved not with gold, but dog poo, in many places, and don't do the tourist thing and hold a map and look lost, you are asking to have your wallets, purses nicked. Lot's of little tea leaves here too. But you are spoilt for choice on shopping, bring plenty of wonga, you will need it.
Bring a camera - there are bucket loads of photo opportunities in the big L.
I live only 20 mins from central London, but I go there regularly, there is loads to see and do, and the tourist presence makes the place buzz.
If you get bored with the shopping there are loads of sights to see and places to visit that have free entry (all the museums for example).
Advice regarding crowds - just go at your own pace and don't be afraid to miss the odd tube train, they are as regular as clockwork and if there are any cancellations there are always alternatives. Make sure you get an all-zones travelcard, that will give you unlimited travel on tubes, buses, trains and even the DLR (which is an interesting experience).
