How long does the deleted emails stay in the deleted box?

Are they deleted automatically after say one month, or does one have to delete them manually?

I thought it was meant to be 5 days...

But... the earliest item I have in my deleted items is 20/8/2011, which is 13 days.

Deleted emails stay until you delete manually. Its the junk e-mail that deletes automatically after about 10 days.
