Im not sure about new technology, I just think that the speed of broadband will just keep increasing.I know that NTL are currently trialing 18mb Broadband. As for limits, I dont think there are any.

"broadband" is not a technology, it is just a vague term that applies to anything that has a bandwidth superior to 128 kbps, and that includes cable, ADSL, and other ( faster ) connections.
Dialup is slow, with 56kbps.
When they say "broadband", it can mean anything from 255kbps to 4Mbps, so it is important to look at the figures, not the name of the technology.
Check the upload bandwidth and the download bandwidth.

Also, check the limits that some providers set.
For example, they charge you extra if you upload more data than you monthly allowance...

I don't know the maximum speed, but with ADSL it depends on how far you are from you local phone exchange or something.

More info about ADSL speed:

On BT's website ( www.bt.com ) there is a little form where you enter your telephone number and it tells you how fast your ADSL connection can be.

It says " Can you get broadband? Enter your telephone number or postcode ". Mine seems to be 2Mbps
