or do you leave it plugged in? had a few issue's with it lately but it seems to have been sorted now. just wondering if the constant unplugging then rebooting is doing it any harm?
TIA

It will in the long term .. heating up and cooling down.
Plus it needs bootup time.
I think most will leave it on .. although I use a power-saver/disconnecter socket for everything else.
I switch mine off at night and when I go to work.

but I'm a manic switcher-offer.
Mine is always save for the odd (usually cat related) occasion. I have no idea which is best though.
I always have mine switched off at night
Yes, I am with sara on this one, and a maniac switcher-offer as well. Can we have a second opionion on this, as to whether we are damaging our modems? I should hope we are not, as I am trying to help save the country £800 million per year in wasted electricity. This is how much is lost through standby and leaving things on charge.
I assume you mean router, rather than modem, They are designed to be left on all the time and work best if they can keep a sync with the exchange equipment.

All my computer equipment is left on 24/7, I just turn off or shut the screens (on the stuff that has a screen attached)
Chuck, the plug gets warm, which worries me!
Yes, and I stick my chewing gum on the bedpost.
i switch everything off at night!!!!!!!!!!

@chuck, I always assumed it was a modem! Little black box with 6 lights ?
If that's the router what's a modem? (I'm even more confused now)

If there designed to be left on I will leave it on!
Thanks
I never switch mine off............
Like everything electrical, I switch mine off and check it 5 times
I never switch mine off, I didn't think they were meant to be. I unplug my Pc but leave the router on.
Just checking I wrote 5 times and not 4 ;o)
lol ;o)
"If that's the router what's a modem"

There is some difference here between the "proper" name for things and the consumer name for things...

if I look at the box you have then the consumer name for it a router but from a network engineers point of view it's actually 3 devices in 1 box... a modem (which connects to the internet), a router (which sends the traffic to the correct place) and a switch (which lets you plug more than one thing in at a time)... but the combined name for them in a household environment is just a router.

TBH... I've pretty much given up trying to explain it to most people that don't have a solid grasp of networking because its a) not imprtant and b) too confusing. but basically... a modem is for connecting one computer, a router is for connecting more than one.
but Chuck.. the plug gets warm!!
LOL.... yep they do, but in 20 years of dealing with thousands of "plugs" I've not seen or heard of one causing a problem.
is it a transformer?

am I talking out of my backside, for a change?
It's a power supply (switched mode power supply to be technical)..... but I feel this is getting to the point that most peoples eyes glaze over and I should shut up :)
