sim card not registering on a phone?

its an erickson cybershot, and the other day it just stopped registering the sim.

when inserted it just brought up the message 'insert sim'

tried another sim and it did the same thing...sims work in other phones

the phone starts up ok, and gets to the homescreen etc fine, so what could be up with it?

any ideas? is there any way i can fix this?
