Why is it that when you get a blocked nose it's ALWAYS only one side thats blocked and it usually your bad side i.e. right handed people with left nostril blocked and vice versa? Personally i have never had both nostrils blocked

I can have either side blocked - and sometimes it actually switches from one side to the other, which is infuriating because of course I want to stop it halfway at the second when both are unblocked. I got a very bad cold last year and had both sides blocked at once - first time this has happened to me; a new virus, I suppose; very unpleasant, but a nose spray sorted it out.
As a lifelong allergy sufferer, I often get BOTH sides blocked at once.
urgh that's reminded me of the impending hayfever season, having both sides of your nose blocked is no joke :(

that's not true I'm afraid.  The side that is blocked normally swaps over through out the day, especially at night.  I've had both nostrils blocked at the same time on a number of occasions, you might have struck it lucky not to get very horrible colds!
