Where is the microphone? Is it actually on the WEB camera on the top??!! (Becos I don't know how to turn it on especially as I can't find it!) All leads seem to be pushed in firmly. ???

I'm not very good technically speaking but my son has just installed skype for me and the microphone is part of the camera. There is a small control on the wire leading to and from which I think you can alter the sound with but otherwise it should be automatic. I expect someone else will answer this a bit more thoroughly than I can. but sometimes simple answers are the best.

lol potty my new PC has a built-in webcam and I've no idea how it works either............

Some cameras have mics, some don't. You need to tell us the make and model of camera.

I've tried pushing the little push button on the top but it doesn't make any difference & there's no other control on the actual lead. Shall persevere. Thx for the suggestion anyway.

If you do a sound test in tools on Skype it will point to any problems you may have. Most webcams these days have an inbuilt mic.

Hope you can get it to work because I think mine is fantastic. I always wondered what would be invented next, didn't think there was anything else, but here it is! And now what I wonder - what else can be invented?

I did a sound test and SKYPE are suggesting that my MIC isn't plugged in but the WEBCAM's green light is on & I've pushed the button at the top a couple of times to no avail. ??

It could be a good idea to skype some one tomorrow, and see if it works first!
My friend has done this and it was so handy to instant message too if it didnt work right, so we could communicate. Was a brilliant idea and worked well

Potty, are you SURE your webcam has a mic? Not all of them do.
Desktop or laptop? Most modern laptops have built in mics. A few desktops do.

I prefer to use a cheap headphone/mic combo. I can pretend I'm really important when I'm chatting to my mates, and the sound quality is miles better.
