Hi : I just got a new laptop with windows 7 home premium on it. I've been having a problem in that when I'l in the middle of something the screen goes black and I have to press the on button then the blue screen comes on saying screen locked. I know it has something to do with sleep mode or other but on the control panel I don't know what to go into to change it. XP control panel was easier to understand. Any help out there? Thanks

Check ...
R Click Desktop and select Display (or Control Panel/Display)
Screensaver Settings. Look for password or time set to go to screensaver and set accordingly.
Power settings are also off setting button there. Check those.

I don't use 7 so settings may vary .. but I think you get the gist!
This may be the screensaver. If so, right-click on your desktop, click "Personalize" and then in the next screen at the bottom right click on Screen Saver. There you can choose whether to have one, how long the inactivity period is before it comes on and whether you see the log-in screen on resume or it just goes back to what you're doing.

To access other power-saving options and features, you don't have to use the control panel. Simply click on the Windows button and type "Power" or "Power options" into the search box and it will bring up these menu options in the search results for you.
