I am a silver surfer who has recently changed to talktalk as my ISP, which on hindsight, is something I regret! Numerous problems have arisen, which by and large have been resolved after lengthy phone-calls to India. Can any forumites help with my latest problem? Whilst viewing a web page, it suddenly vanishes, and the desk top page appears. This is happening quite frequently. Thanks Little Neil

Your browser crashes?

Possibly your firewall settings are too high. Are you using IE, and what firewall do you use?
Browser crashes are unrelated to your choice of ISP.

If you're using Internet Explorer (mad, mad, mad!), go to the Microsoft website and check that you've got all of the latest updates. If that doesn't work, try using System Restore, to take your PC back to a date when your browser didn't crash.

Far better, use Firefox instead of IE:
http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/
(If you're already using Firefox, just reinstall it. You won't lose any settings or favourites. You don't even need to uninstall it first)

The vast majority of the 'regulars', here in AB's Technology section, use either Firefox or Chrome. Internet Explorer is, like nearly all Microsoft programs, widely regarded as 'a bit of a joke'.

You appear to have been rather unlucky with TalkTalk as I have been with them for more than 18 months without any problems. I still recommend the ISP to others. I was advised to switch to Firefox instead of IE because IE wasn't showing all the detail on a particular webpage.

Thank you very much for your replies. We were on IE with Norton Firewall, and have managed to install Firefox as our default browser. So far, so good - no pages lost, no losing internet when we type on a link! We would like to stay with TalkTalk, but if you've ever had to listen to that b---y music for 30 minutes!
I'll keep you posted.
