Save up for a new one. Don't let your current experience of your Mac put you off though.
No wonder you're having problems if you are still using Mac OS 10.2.1.
The current version is OS 10.5 (Leopard) and it's a joy to use.

Technical support for 10.2 is almost nonexistent.
All the support is now for 10.4.11 (Tiger) and 10.5 and this includes drivers from manufacturers of printers, scanners, digital cameras etc etc. . .

Save up and treat yourself to a new iMac.
Pop down to your nearest Apple Store for a demo or find all the information and technical support you need from the Apple website.

p.s. Don't even think about a PC. No really, don't.

is it easy to get online and also to download photoshop etc
To stop support for a four year old machine is very bad customer relations.

Surely that can't be right?
10.3 (Panther) was out in October '03.

So your system is prior to this. However, Mac OS X was still in its earlier stages prior to this, with less support from the hardware manufacturers.

Free updates will go up to 10.2.x, but you'd need an internet connection to do this (but you've never done it).

Basically, what Mac do you have? If it fits the system requirements, go out and buy Mac OS X Leopard.

Download photoshop -- not legally. You'll need to buy that from a highstreet shop or somewhere like Amazon.
