I have a 3com office connect ADSL wireless11g firewall router. I want to add another laptop and a new moble but when I enter my password I get this; Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage etc....etc.. As though there is no internet. I have tried just using "admin" and checked all my settings on the laptop. Is it just me ? I have trawled through other answers on this site but without success

Have you tried accessing your 192.168.... page whilst connected by ethernet?

The only this happens to me is when it is trying to open my next door neighbour's unsecured network which I haven't connected to.

Hi Ethel,
If you mean the cable, then no, I cant find it. Hoped to resolve problem without it.. As far as I am aware there are no unsecured networks nearby.
I would say you are using the wrong password.

If push comes to shove you'll have to reset it by pressing the reset button and setting the whole thing up again.

Last resort though - especially as you can't find the cable.

Thanks, will give it a go.
When you type that number in, it asks for a username and password, or displays nothing?

If you're connected to your router's wireless signal, then click start->run, and then type 'cmd'. press enter. then in the black dos prompt, type 'ipconfig /all'. note what it gives for your gateway.

hopefully it's 192.168.1.1 (it doesn't have to be)

if you get the admin and password box, but it won't let you in with your password, first check that you're typing it in correctly, and if you are, then reset the router and set it up again. this can be done with a paperclip in a small hole on the router, and then using the default password (see here)

depending on how your router is configured you may need to physically connect your laptop to the router by the ethernet cable - you should be able to buy one if you cant find it

You may have a setting activated to prevent remote configuration. This is good as it stops someone sitting outside you house with a laptop, hacking your router and locking you out of your own network. Unfortunately as you cannot find the cable it is also preventing you from reconfiguring your router. Try to borrow a cable should just be standard CAT5 Ethernet and try it again

Thanks everyone. I had to reset and start all over again. Help very much appreciated though.
Glad you go sorted in the end. :)
