Has anyone ever ordered anything from Amazon that said 'Usually dispatched within 24 hours' and it ACTUALLY was dispatched within 24 hours? I know I never have. I just ordered three books, all of which stated the 24 hour thing and was given an estimated dispatch date four days away! What gives?

Hi boognish, as an avid reader Amazon is almost a home from home for me, but to answer your question - No. New books can take a week or more, third party books or videos can be two weeks.

It used to really annoy me but after having so much stuff go astray (not from Amazon) I'm just relieved when the goods actually arrive.

Thanks, Cetti. I suppose it's *slightly* less annoying now I know it's not only me, but I'm so impatient dammit!
I have only ever ordered one thing from amazon which arrived within 24 hours!!! I believe the problem is because they have tried to save money by not holding as much stock- now they outsource where ever possible!
