Cadent are living up to their reputation for shoddiness and want to relocate my meter box outside. I don't want them to do this and after much evasion, finally got them to provide an outline of the proposed works.

Could someone advise me if this is legit? I have read on other forums that the reason they prefer to do this is because it's easy for them to do.

This is what they've sent:

Enabling for service inlet renewal

- Excavate on existing service and new meter box location below bay window in front garden area (which has now been undertaken)

- Installation of the new meter box(s) on wall below the front bay window

- Isolate and cut existing 1” service in association with decommissioning of the 12” CI parent main, commencing 09.09.22 @ 07:30.

Service/Outlet Renewal Options

Option A

- Cut isolated 1” supply in front garden area

- Insert new PE pipe through into basement area (if applicable. Unable to determine until access provided) or Insert new PE pipe back to existing meter point (unable to be determined until access provided and supply disconnected).

Option B

- Cut isolated 1” supply in front garden area

- Install meter box

- Insert new PE from f/w to 1” cut point and connect new inlet to meter box(s).

- Relocate existing meter to new meter box

- Installation of new copper outlet back to internal gas point by gas safe engineer (route to be determined on permissible access).

The basement is inaccessible. What I don't understand is how they need access to it for option A, but not for option B. The basement extends up to the front garden.

If anyone could advise, I'd be grateful!

Have they told you why they want to do it? How old is your meter? They don't last forever and are typically changed between 10 and 25 years.
Where is your meter at the moment? Is it easy to get to?
