Merci should be followed by 'de', not 'pour'.

No, Jackdaw and myself are right. A french person would never use 'pour' after 'merci'. Google translate is useless!

In my book 'Thanks for your help' should be rendered 'Merci de votre assistance' never 'pour'. I would have been marked down at school if I had written the latter.

danny these translation sites do literal translation and largely disregard grammar and certainly don't take into consideration colloquialism For Example, in English you would say 'Pocket knife' while in French you would say 'knife of the pocket'. Sometimes they get it right sometimes they get it wrong. The lady in question, I'm sure, will get the drift...its just nitpicking by me.
